Concrete Finishing Timing Estimator
Timing is the single biggest factor in concrete finishing quality. Start too early and you trap bleed water. Start too late and the surface is unworkable. Use this tool to estimate your finishing window based on pour conditions.
Estimated Finishing Window
1h – 2h 30m
after pour
Low Risk
Can begin as soon as bleed water disappears
Timing Tips
- →Bleed water must fully evaporate before finishing — pressing a thumb into the surface should leave a clean impression, not a wet one
- →Hot, windy conditions can cut your finishing window in half — have your crew and tools staged before the pour arrives
- →Retarder admixtures extend the finishing window by 1–3 hours, essential for large stamped or decorative slabs
- →Finishing too early is the #1 cause of surface scaling and dusting in the first winter
- →For slabs over 500 sq ft, consider having two finishing crews to cover the full area within the window
